I didn’t send an April post because I was busy working on a piece for Polygon and coming out as a Spike fan. The piece published this week, and it’s on Buffy, the show’s most hated episode (S6 E19), and the imaginative possibilities of shipper fanfiction. I wanted to write a piece that would take fanfiction sites seriously as creative spaces and creative communities. I spent lots of time with Spuffy on Elysian Fields, rewatched tons of BTVS, interviewed EF moderators/writers, and spoke with Ian Carlos Crawford, who hosts the Slayerfest98 podcast. I also got to work again with one of my favorite editors and culture writers, Nicole Clark. A dream!
